The two types of general use handheld radios that we offer are:
1. FRS (Family Radio Service): these have lower-power output and operate at a half-watt of power. They have 7 FRS channels and 7 shared FRS/GMRS channels for a total of 14 channels.
2. GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service): these are higher-power radios that typically offer 1 or 2 watts of power. GMRS signals can travel on any GMRS or FRS bands with a total of 22 channels. In order to operate a GMRS radio at over a half-watt of power, you are required by the FCC to have a radio license. Command Supply does not report your purchase to the FCC, so it is up to you as the consumer to obtain any licenses.
